Life = X x Y (Equation of Life)

Life is intermingled with pleasurable aspects, joyful aspects, and beneficial aspects (=X), as well as painful aspects, sad aspects, and aspects of loss (=Y) and it is never just one or the other. Life is truly a multiplication of X and Y, and this Life = X x Y is called the Equation of Life.

Usually, we welcome X (pleasurable aspects, joyful aspects, and beneficial aspects), but we want to keep Y (painful aspects, sad aspects, and aspects of loss) away that occur in our life. This is because we believe that in life the more X, the happier we are, and the more Y, the unhappier we are.

However, X and Y are intermingled in our life as both bring us indispensable experiences. If we pursue only X in our life, our mind will be tossed about by the unwanted Y that occur one after another, and we may lose sight of our life’s purpose.

From the perspective of the Study of the Soul, we perceive hardships and trials, in other words Y, as a chance for our growth and evolution. The way we face the Y we encounter determines how much our life deepens. Therefore, looking at life as a whole, it is no exaggeration to say that the negative aspects of not experiencing Y are far greater than the traumas undergone because of Y.

When we awaken to the law of Life = X x Y, we will come to walk through life with a different attitude. We will be able to listen to the callings of various situations and find clues for new solutions and creations during difficulties. We will then begin to live our life facing new initiatives and challenges, and we will be guided into a new dimension in life.
