Sensei's Current Activity

March 24, 2019, the Second THE GATE Seminar Series, second seminar (Tokyo Prince Hotel)

As you just saw, this person is able to do mathematical calculations at an incredible speed. This ability to calculate mentally is something that can be drawn out of a person, and, in fact, many of you were also able to arrive at the answer quickly, but still, this is an incredible ability.

How does a normal person acquire this kind of ability? By repeatedly doing calculations using an abacus until one is able to picture a virtual abacus in the mind. We thus gradually acquire a mental abacus that makes a real, physical, abacus unnecessary.

Now I would like you to observe a novice making mental calculations. This person, too, has a mental abacus. But you see the hands moving as if using an imaginary abacus. This is how the mental abacus is gradually created. When the mental abacus is finally activated, the person acquires an incredible ability to calculate.

Now then, what about an electronic calculator? A calculator does not move the mind. After all, we are just pressing buttons. It is not possible to create a mental calculator. An electronic calculator does not have the ability to connect outer reality with our inner being.

An abacus, on the other hand, can connect external reality with our inner being. It can connect reality with our mind.

An electronic calculator cannot do this, but an abacus can because it is that kind of tool.

What do you think? I have talked about the tools that help to foster our powers. Our minds are fostered and grow through our daily encounters and interactions.
