Seeing the True Entity
The Theme behind My New Book:
“The Two Doors”
I am pleased to announce the publication of my new book for this year. It is The Two Doors: The Ultimate Choice for Living in the Time of the Unbelievable. I hope you have already picked up a copy.
In the article for this month, the Compass of the Times, I would like to write about some of my thoughts on this new book.
The main title and subtitle of this new book summarize the themes of the book.
First, as the subtitle indicates, the time in which we now live is the time of the unbelievable.
Since the year before last, the world has been plunged into unprecedented turmoil by COVID-19.
In the world we humans live, this turmoil is not limited to the confusion caused by this disease, but we are afflicted by the severity of the world that constantly produces such unpredictable reality. In other words, we must live in the time of the unbelievable, in which we cannot predict what will happen next. And the ultimate choice in living through such a period is incorporated in the main title, The Two Doors.
The world that follows the door on the left is the one in which we live with a materialistic view of humanity and the world.
The world beyond the right door is the one in which we live with a view of humanity and the world of eternal life.
The world on the left is the one that sees human beings as simply material, and the world on the right is the one that sees human beings as a soul.
“Which of the two doors do we choose to live? Which view of humanity and the world do we choose?” These are ultimate choices that underlie every choice we make day by day and have a decisive impact on everything.
Of course, the choice that this book encourages us to take is the world on the right side. It encourages readers to live with a view of humanity and the world that perceives each of us as a soul.
This is the main content of the Prologue and Chapter One.
Seeing the True Entity of People and the World
Now that we have chosen the world that follows the door on the right, how can we live in that world? Chapters two through eight provide the answer and how we should set our mindset.
Their respective titles are: “Know Your True Heart1,” “Search Your Purpose in Life,” “Let People Live in Your Heart,” “Stop Labeling Things,” “Extract Treasures from Difficulties,” “Continue ‘Doing’,” and “Become the One Who Creates the Cause.” These are the seven mindsets for us to follow the life lived in the world that leads from the right door.
Each of these mindsets is also an encouragement for our practice. Included in each chapter are the stories of those people who practice the goals of each title. These stories will encourage us to implement these mindsets and develop them into concrete works and practices.
These seven mindsets are the ultimate secrets to living in the world on the right side. In other words, they are the keys to being able to live with the view of humanity and the world of eternal life.
If we keep these mindsets within us and try to live by them every day, we will be able to see things that we could not see before.
In the world of the left door, the events that occur in that world seem to happen randomly and by coincidence without any context. Encounters that come into our lives also seem to happen in a succession of coincidences or by chance. In the world that sees human beings as merely physical existences, it is the only way we perceive these events.
Such a perspective is only a superficial view that sees the outer layer of things without depth. As long as we rely on the materialistic view of humanity and the world, we will continue to have superficial perceptions from beginning to end.
However, once we walk into the world of the right door and follow the mindsets for living in that world, we will be able to change our perception of life and the world completely.
We will be able to see that the events that occur in the world do not happen as individually isolated events but as an invisible network of connections spread among them. Furthermore, we will be able to accept that the encounters that come into our lives do not happen by coincidence or chance and that each one has its reason and inevitability.
Such changes lead us to be able to see the true entity of the world, life, and things. We will be able to see not only the shape of its surface but also the energy contained within it, and furthermore, transcending conventional wisdom or general ideas, we will be able to perceive the possibilities and limitations that exist there with real experience.
1. True Heart, Public Stance, and Raw Honest Feelings
Public stance refers to superficial policies and principles, while raw honest feelings refer to true feelings that are hidden underneath. Public stance is often associated with theories of what we should do and what is right, and it tends to diverge from what we feel. Raw honest feelings often tend to become selfish feelings or malicious feelings. The True Heart is none other than aspirations and feelings rooted behind the mind, the dimension of the soul. The True Heart is what calls forth the new self, what brings forth a new reality. (Excerpted from pp. 66-71 of The Two Doors, currently available only in Japanese)
